On May 18th of 2011 Minnesota commemorated the
Sesquicentennial (150 year anniversary) of the American Civil War. The event,
which took place at the State Capital was hosted by Secretary of state Mark
Richie and attended by several Civil War re-enactors and interpreters. Governor
Mark Dayton, former Governor Al Quie, Dr. William Green, Dean Urdahl, supreme
court justice Pau Anderson, and adjutant general Richard Nash also attended and
delivered speeches. The event feature three Civil War era cannons that were
gifts from Belgium and have been recently restored under the direction of
Richard Nash
